Accra, Aug. 7, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced a driver's mate, who was employed as a shopkeeper, to four years' imprisonment with hard labour, for stealing his employer's goods and cash totalling 26.7 million cedis.

The court chaired by Mr K.O. Beechem also bonded Derrick Kwasi to be of good behaviour for two years after serving the sentence or would serve an additional two years in default.

Kwasi, 21, pleaded guilty to stealing and the court convicted him on his plea.

The Prosecution told the court that on March 25, 2001, the shop of the complainant, Nana Oppongwa II was broken into and items including wax prints, men's cloths and a tape recorder in addition to cash of 367,000 cedis, were stolen.

He said the convict bolted and was not seen until July 12, this year when Nana Oppongwa saw him at Achimota where she raised the alarm and Kwasi was arrested.

The Prosecutor said Kwasi admitted stealing the items.
