A-S-E-M! Wobeda, wobeda, wobeda ntem! And it looks as if Asem ada ntem!

Arguably one of the best songwriters the industry boasts of, Asem tasted fame with the release of his controversial single ‘Give Me Blow’, which was woven with puns.

For some people, the intention of Asem was clear – he wanted to thrive on sexually explicit lyrics and indeed, it worked for him. From ‘Bye Bye’, ‘No More Kpayor’, ‘Pigaro’, ‘Suuliya’, ‘When I Get You’, to ‘School Dey Bee’, the rapper proved to be a force to reckon with.’

One thing many would remember him for, is his ability to sum up showbiz events that occurred in his year of review tracks. In fact, his ‘Last Song’ and '2010 Fylla’ were more controversial than his suggestive songs and his witty nature on the song made the records masterpieces.

Nana Wiafe Asante Mensah as the artiste is known in real life wrote songs for some notable musicians, featured on them and they were hit songs. The list included ‘Odo Yi Wo Hen’ by Lady Prempeh.

After he parted ways with the Lynx Entertainment label which introduced him to the industry, Asem, a product of the Ghana Institute of Journalism has never been the same. The popularity has dwindled; no more hit songs. He has been absent from the music scene.

In 2015, some photographs of the Asem stoked conversation on social media with many alleging that the rapper’s drastic weight loss might be as a result of an ailment – a claim he rubbished.

“They say I've grown too slim. Like I give a [hoot]… What you think? I laugh soo hard my six packs crack. For lack of knowledge oh my people, rather in shape than overweight, losing weight is very difficult guys, a lot of sacrifice and healthy eating, takes a lot of discipline, I struggled to get to this point and the payoff is amazing,” he said.

To be fair, Asem has been posting stuff on social media with little interaction from follows.

When next will he give Ghana a monster hit song?
