The orchestra and the children
Takoradi base choral group, The Sixteenth Angelic Choir last Sunday showcased on stage one of the arm of the Choir-Children’s’ Choir and the Orchestra at the show dubbed ‘Let It Sound’.
The show held at the Word of Life Assemblies of God Church-Takoradi featured mostly the children’s’ choir aged between 6-12 years perform on stage and backed by the orchestra players also aged between 8-16 years.
The Takoradi base singing group is the only group in Ghana to have an accompanying instruments orchestra and children’s choir.
In a show dubbed ‘Let It sound’ and conducted by the brain behind the Sixteenth Angelic Choir, Joseph Kingsley Amusah sent a clear signal of how the orchestra would make their various instruments ranging from cello, viola, trumpet, violin, clarinet amongst others sound on stage.
The show was meant to bring the orchestra and the children’s choir into the limelight and interestingly, it was a delight to watching the orchestra players plucking the strength of their instruments particularly the violin players.
In fact, the orchestra and the children’s choir did not disappoint on stage displaying their singing skills and talent in each of the instruments played on stage.
Characteristic of a singing group noted for respect for time, the show started exactly 5pm as advertised with a procession of the children’s choir mounting the stage followed by the orchestra players.
The orchestra players set the stage ready in part one of the show by performing the popular classical piece from the 20th Century Fox –the piece make use of the full orchestra and it was a delight to watch the orchestra plucking out the strength of the various instruments on stage.
Followed next was the Royal Fireworks piece, a piece by George Fredric Handel also making use of the full orchestra amongst other pieces such as the Glade and Perper written by Joseph Amusah and Paa Kwesi Ahenkorah respectively, the brain behind the formation of the group.
The second part of the show dubbed ‘Light Up’ featured the children’s choir perform various pieces on stage as backed by the orchestra.
Formed two years ago, the idea of the formation of the children’s Choir is to back up the main choir.
The choir performed the popular Ave Maria but this time rearranged by Gonoud from the original composer, J. S. Bach. Make me a channel, a common cotemporary piece rearranged by Joseph Amusah was also performed by the children’s choir.
Sound of music, a popular music movie also rearranged by Joseph Amusah talks about the tonic solfa using each tonic name as a word to rehearse a note was also performed.
With Maame Ekua Manful, an opera singer leading the solo of the piece and the children choir responding, the piece was beautifully performed to the adoration of the audience seated.
Part three of the show dubbed ‘Trumpet Concerto’ saw Obed Paintsil with the trumpet and Obed Amoah behind the piano. A selected members of the adult choir occasionally performed solo and duet pieces.
The show finally ended with both the adult selected members of the choir joining the children’s choir backed by the orchestra to perform the folk piece dubbed ‘Dokono mpoto’ to wit mash kenkey composed by Joseph Amusah.
