Smoking is like womanizing & drinking – King Ayisoba

Ghanaian music icon Alpert Apozori, popularly known as King Ayisoba, is not happy about claims that he said that a lot of Ghanaian musicians were wee users.

He denied ever making such claims and urged the public and his large fan base not to take those wee claims about him serious. “I didn’t say Ghanaian musicians smoke wee”, King Ayisoba told News-One in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.

Last week, the award-winning musician made the headlines with claims that linked him with using wee. The reports alleged that “King Ayisoba revealed that a lot of musicians in Ghana smoke marijuana but are afraid to admit it because they are hypocrites”.

According to the report, he made the comment while speaking in an interview on ‘Taxi Driver’ on Hitz FM hosted by Blakk Rasta.

But Ayisoba said he had not made any of those utterances. He has not witnessed any Ghanaian musician smoking marijuana. “I want to advice all Ghanaians, especially children not to smoke. It is not a good thing. It is like womanizing and drinking, it will bring you down, so please don’t engage in such things,” Ayisoba cautioned.

The ‘I Want See You My Father’ hit maker is currently one of Ghana’s successful musicians taking the country’s music across borders. Apart From Osibisa and the likes of Gyedu Blay Ambulley, Ayisoba is one artiste who performed in many countries across the world.

He frequently performs in countries like United States of America, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and a host of other countries.

He said his latest album titled, ‘Don’t Do The Thing’, is out in northern belt of Ghana. In matter of week, he will release it in the south and Accra. Also, his video for one of the songs on the album will be out soon. The 11-track album features Denmark’s reigning artiste called Fafa on the song, ‘To Go Where You Like’ and ‘Akonoba’, featuring Yaa Porno, Kweku T and Wanlove Kubolor.

Produced by Panji Anoff’s Pidgin Music, he is also backed by great voices of Adootango, Sheik Bongo and Big Rapper. Ayisoba was born Albert Apozori but he adopted King Ayisoba, which means landlord, as his stage name. He hails from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region of Ghana. He has 14 siblings from his father’s three wives.

A couple of his brothers are part of his band. He sings in Frafra, Twi and English.

King Ayisoba considers Terry Bonchaka, the late hip life artiste who passed away in 2003, his mentor, as the former helped him into the music limelight.

While working with Terry Bonchaka, he wrote or composed songs and played Kologo music while Terry did the raps. King Ayisoba’s track ‘I Want To See You My Father’ topped the charts in Ghana in 2006.

It subsequently won the most popular song of the year at the Ghana Music Awards.
