Upper Bobikuma (C/R), Aug 8, GNA - Snakes, other reptiles and rodents have invaded the Upper Bobikuma Police Barracks and Charge Office due to their deplorable state. Mr John Kojo Mensah, Chairman of the Upper Bobikuma Akwambo Festival Planning Committee, stated this when he took the Ghana News Agency (GNA) round the barracks on Sunday. He said that a snake bit the son of a Police Officer recently and had to be rushed to the Bobikuma Health Centre for treatment. Mr Mensah said some of the servicemen complain of seeing snakes in the Charge Office in the night. He noted that there was no toilet facility at the barracks and personnel had to go into the bush while there were no doors to the bathrooms and kitchen with leaking roofs.

According to Mr Mensah due to scarcity of accommodation the District Police Commander instead of staying at Upper Bobikuma was residing at Agona Abodom about two miles away. He said because of the deplorable state of the barracks Police personnel especially women do not accept posting to Bobikuma. Mr Mensah appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Police Council to include the Upper Bobikuma Police Station in the list of barrack nationwide to be renovated. He urged citizens of the area resident outside to visit home regularly to support development programmes. 08 Aug 06
