The contemporary Nigerian gospel sensation, Enkay, born Nkiruka Ogboruche has applauded the gospel scene in Ghana for its vibrancy and inspiration to them in Nigeria.
Speaking on Starr Fm on the Morning Zoo with Kojo Preko Dankwa, the Gospel diva ahead of Africa Ghana Awards Festival – AGAFEST in Ghana acknowledged the similarities between Ghana and Nigeria in their thinking and mindset which has influenced their songs and are accepted wherever there is a Ghanaian and Nigerian community.
“I actually think that Ghana and Nigerian are almost the same in our thinking, our mindsets are almost the same because I mean, and we are brothers and sisters. We are very close so it goes without saying that our thinking is almost alike. I also noticed that the gospel music scene in Ghana is also vibrant with lots of amazing music coming out of this great country; so it also inspires us in some way as well,” she said.
Enkay, has further revealed that many churches in Nigeria play and enjoy gospels songs from Ghana for their praises and worship music. Some of these are songs from Joe Mettle, Sonnie Badu and Celentina Donkor.
She also acknowledged that the influence of Social Media has helped greatly in monitoring these artists and their music which inspires them a lot.
“Joe Mettle for one, lots of his songs are sung in my church and it makes for fantastic praise and worship music so that’s one great example. Sonnie Badu, even though he is not resident here in Ghana, he has a huge influence on what we do back home and a couple of other female gospel musicians like Celestine Donker. On social media, you get to see everybody. You like what everybody is doing and you’re inspired over and over again,” she emphasized.
The “Salute” hit maker, however, expressed her love for award ceremonies. She stressed that awards and plaques are not her focus but that her hard work will be recognized and that keeps them getting better at what they do at their highest quality. Besides such awards ceremonies are also opportunities to showcase her gift to the world that she has been called into.
Enkay became a known figure when she released her first single, Yes! You are the Lord – an upbeat worship song in 2014.
