Are you one of the many people who have been asking about where some of the artistes who ruled our music world some years past have been hiding after a hiatus out of the music industry.
Flex newspaper has heard your cry so we traveled to the United Kingdom to speak with Sonny Achiba concerning what he has been doing for the past years of absence.
In a phone chat with him, he told Flex newspaper that at a point in time he was not really interested in singing again and wanted to quit to be part of a production team who mastered in music engineering. This took him on a journey to U.K. where the actual training in sound engineering started with earnest interest. At the moment, Sonny Achiba who introduced what he called Hip-dia is now a fully trained sound engineer plying his trade in the UK.
Flex newspaper asked him if he feels music was not his profession from the beginning but entered there out of accident. “Well, when you look at my background, you will realize that I was then a good footballer so thought I would be a professional footballer but along the line, I decided to take dancing as a profession. A medical doctor asked me not to play footballer again because of an accident I had. Through dancing, I met musicians like George Jarah, Nana Tuffour, Rex Omar, Tommy Wiredu, Frank Mensah Pozo, Randy Noonoo, Ama Badu and so on. So personally, I think it is destiny which cannot be changed by our ways or interest” Sonny told Attractive .
Information reaching this paper has it that Sonny is about to release another album, so we asked what motivated his release. He answered that anytime he meets Ghanaians in U.K or talk to them online, he realizes that the demand for him to do music is very high, which means that if he does not satisfy his fans it may go a long way to affect whatever he does since he is still in the industry.
Sony is among the few musicians who were able to sell over (250000) copies of tapes in Three (3) months and within Nine (9) months sold about (5500) copies. Does he still think he can record the same sales in this time when things seem not to be going in favour of musicians in Ghana especially hip life musicians? This was his answer.
“Piracy is now everywhere. But musicians elsewhere are not complaining since they have good managers and promoters to market their products to the outside world which we are lacking in our case. I have listened to some songs which are not better than what musicians are doing in Ghana but they are making it. So we need to sit up” he added
He revealed to Flex newspaper exclusively that his studio in Ghana is near completion. The main aim of that studio is to help talented underground musicians who do not have the support to move on in their music career. Sonny Achiba has therefore asked his followers worldwide to expect his great come back with a more refined Hip life interlaced with India music flavour.
