Sparrow To fly ?LG Miss Ghana? In March

One of the numerous thrilling events that marked the celebration of Ghana?s independence in 1957 was the Miss Ghana beauty pageant.

Come Sunday,March 6,Ghana will celebrate 48 years of nationhood.And refreshingly the Miss Ghana pageant is still around and flying high on the wings of Sparrow Productions Limited, the new organisers of the show.


Sparrow, which took over from Media Whizzkids Limited last year, has launched this year?s event at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on the theme;?A search for a beautiful mind?.The event sponsored by LG Electronics-Ghana is dubbed ?LG Miss Ghana 2005?.


Some previous winners of the national beauty contest were present at the launch.They included Magdalene Adjabeng, Miss Ghana ?86; Benita Golomeke,Miss Ghana ?96 and Inna Mariam Patty, Miss Ghana 2004.


It was the wish of the organisers to present one of the first Miss Ghana beauty queens,Star Annan Hammond,who was a national beauty queen in the 50s, but who had been called by her Creator and interred a few days before the ceremony.


The Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City, Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey who launched ?LG Miss Ghana 2005? appealed to companies in the country to support events that promote tourism.

?I will take this opportunity to thank all sponsors and donors who support the pageant,especially LG,for taking up the mantle of the main sponsor this year. I also appeal to other companies to follow suit?,the Minister said.


He pledged government?s support and the ?blessing of my ministry? for the pageant and charged Sparrow Productions to come out with a ?clean? and exciting show.


The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sparrow Productions, Shirley Frimpong Manso promised to give Ghanaians a good show saying ?we would like to believe that by crowning Inna Mariam Patty last year,we succeeded in giving Ghana a truly unanimous winner? who was accepted by the judges, critics and fans of the pageant.


The reigning Miss Ghana, Mariam Patty, was hopeful that she will make a strong showing at this year?s Miss World pageant.


Mr Ashok Mohinani,the CEO of LG Electronics-Ghana, sponsors of the pageant expressed his company?s commitment to the success of the event and pledged their continued support for the event.
