A secret connection of electricity by a sprayer from a meter board into his room has allegedly caused the death of a fire officer.

Ebenezer Seddoh, the deceased, met his untimely death when he went to help control fire which was burning from an illegally electrical connection by Francis Avorkpoh, the sprayer.

Avorkpoh, whose plea was not taken has been charged with manslaughter and remanded in prison custody by the Adjabeng Community Tribunal, chaired by Mrs Jennifer Tagoe.

Inspector John Kweku, who presented the facts, said Seddoh was a staff of the Ghana Fire Service in Accra.

He said on January 1, at about 10.55 pm, there was a fire outbreak at a house at Maamobi so some persons including Seddoh, who also lived in the vicinity went to help to quench the fire but he was electrocuted in the process.

In the course of police investigations, it was alleged Avorkpoh connected an electrical wire from a meter board to the room which came under fire.

Subsequently, Avorkpoh was arrested and in his caution statement, he admitted tapping the wire from a meter board somewhere but he claimed he had disconnected the wires.

Avorkpoh mentioned a second person as the one who reconnected the wires but he could not identify the said person.

According to the prosecutor, efforts are being made to arrest the said suspect for interrogation.
