Commuters along the Liberation Road and those using the Tetteh-Quarshie Roundabout in Accra were treated to soothing jazz music on Tuesday and Thursday evening. The street jazz is a prelude to the 2019 Stanbic Ghana Jazz Festival, which will host UK reggae and pop band, UB40, Africa’s golden voice, Salif Keita and world class Cameroonian bassist Richard Bona from February 28, 2019 through to March 2, 2019.

Leading the display at Stanbic Street Jazzfest II was Ghana’s Akablay, who performed some old tunes in keeping with the theme for this year’s festival; Nostalgia. The Street Jazz event also featured performances from crooner Nene Narh and Owuraku, the guitarist.

Head of Marketing, Stanbic Bank Ghana, Mawuko Afadzinu said, “the Stanbic Jazz Festival is an expression of Stanbic Bank’s commitment and support for the arts and entertainment industry. This year’s theme of nostalgia draws on the fact that we are celebrating twenty years of operations in Ghana.”

“Beyond bringing Ghanaians UB40, Salif Ketia and Richard Bona, we want to inspire hope – one that makes Ghanaians look into the future with confidence and we want to give Ghanaians, even those who cannot make it to the main event, a glimpse of that hope. That is why we are holding these street jazz activations. Please watch out for the street jazz because your community may be next”, Mr. Afadzinu said.

The Stanbic Jazz Festival, is a musical journey that began in 2014. It brings world class jazz acts to serenade jazz lovers in Ghana. The Festival creates a platform for international artistes and local musicians to perform together in keeping with the tradition of the Standard Bank Group which has been consistently blending home grown talents and international acts at the Standard Bank Joy of Johannesburg.

As part of Stanbic’s support for worthy causes, this year’s event is in aid of the fight against malaria and part of the ticket proceeds shall be used to support the Infanta Foundation.
