Steve Bedi thrills audience at UN day in China

Ghanaian saxophonist, Steve Bedi, performed to top diplomats and high-profiled officials in Beijing, China as part of activities to commemorate the 2018 United Nations Day.

Steve was in his elements on the night. He rocked the guests who turned up for the event. He thrilled them to an impressive repertoire of smash hits from Contemporary jazz and African music.

Members and guests of the UN Country Team in China gathered in Beijing to celebrate the UN Day and made a commitment to further promote the Sustainable Development Goals.

The celebration, themed "Better Together - Partnerships for SDGs", aimed to highlight the importance of partnerships to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and showcase the inspiring examples of contributions from inclusive partners in promoting SDGs and addressing the most critical issues of the time. This year marks the 73rd anniversary of UN.

Steve Bedi, a Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS was joined by other performers from Peace Companion Orchestra, Central Conservatory of Music Student Band and Peking University to thrill the audience during the celebration.

This is the first of such events organised by the UN in China with an African artiste headlining. His visit was facilitated by the Ghana Ambassador to China, H.E. Edward Boateng and sponsored by Senyuan Company.

This is Steve Bedi’s first performance in China. He and his six-man band are later scheduled to perform in top Jazz clubs in other Chinese cities, Guandzhou and Shenzhen.

Steve Bedi`s genre of music is a unique and a subtle blend between Swing, Soul, R&B, Zouk, Ghanaian Highlife and other African music. Though a contemporary afro jazz style, his music appeals to fans of any age.

He has performed in a number of international music festivals and concerts in New York, France (Les Escale), South Africa (Joy of Jazz), Sierra Leone (Ballanta Music Festival) and Malawi (Sunbird and Lake of Stars Festivals).

He also featured on stage with legendary musicians on the African continent, including South Africa`s Hugh Masekela, Senegal`s Baba Maal, Cote d`Ivoire`s Fredie Meiway, Cameroun`s Richard Bona and the celebrated Ghanaian music group - OSIBISA, among many others.

Apart from his work in the entertainment industry, Steve Bedi is also an appreciated philanthropist for his work with young people and on HIV prevention campaign among young people - "Protect the Goal"
