Stonebwoy has lost out on winning the Best International Act: Africa award at this year’s BET Awards.
The decorated Ghanaian artiste missed out on the prize to Nigerian act Wizkid. Stonebwoy was hoping to come home with the gong – to make it his second in two years – but in a year under review that saw Wizkid’s crossover appeal grow, it was going to be a tall order.
Wizkid also won ahead of Nasty C, Babes Wodumo, AKA, Davido, Mr Eazi and Tekno. It was his second after a joint one with Sarkodie in 2012.
South Africa’s Nomzamo Mbatha co-hosted the International Awards stage alongside US model Eva Marcille.
The 2017 BET Awards will kick off Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The Best International Act: Africa category is usually handed out hours to the main show.
The Leslie Jones-hosted event will air on BET with a live stream available online. Organizers say a backstage live stream will also take place on Twitter.
The night’s performers include Bruno Mars, DJ Khaled, who just released his Grateful album, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky, Lil Wayne, Mary J Blige, and Trey Songz among a host of others.
