Afro-dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has expressed concern over the rising costs of kidney dialysis treatments at hospitals, empathizing with affected patients.

Following a GHOne news report that showed patients unable to receive dialysis at the Renal Unit of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital due to a price hike, Stonebwoy voiced his support for those affected.

The GHOne report revealed that patients were caught off guard by the sudden increase in dialysis fees from GH¢380 to GH¢491, forcing many to skip necessary treatments as they could not afford the new rate for their twice-weekly sessions.

The patients also shared their worries about the health implications of missing these critical sessions.

However, in response, Stonebwoy has urged the Ministry of Health to address the situation and consider subsidizing the costs to alleviate the burden on kidney disease sufferers.

He took to Twitter, stating, “It never Easy… @mohgovgh. Please look inside this increment and let’s find ways to subsidize the cost of dialysis, if possible.”

Recently, the Renal Patients Association of Ghana expressed alarm over the dialysis cost surge, which comes on the heels of their earlier objections to a cost increase this year.

With Ghana's population at 30.8 million, research published in BMC Health Research Services indicates there are approximately 15,400 individuals living with kidney failure in the country.
