The International Federation Of Women?s Lawyers says this weekend?s Ghana Music Awards should be used as a platform to challenge the increasing use of profanity and abusive stereotypes against women in Ghanaian music lyrics.

FIDA said whiles it recognizes the importance of music talent and ingenuity in musicians, it finds some lyrics and music videos demeaning to women.

The 5th Ghana Music Awards takes place at the Accra International Conference Center with hip life artiste set to sweep most of the awards.

It is projected that several people would pack the main auditorium of the Conference Center to watch the show and FIDA finds in that a big platform to wage the war against profanity.

?When lyrics of musician portray that women are sex objects, they perpetuate the misconception that it is men?s right to have sex with any woman of their choice irrespective of age. Music videos are some of the worst in depicting women as objects of male pleasures by exposing parts of women?s body in such shots?, a FIDA statement said.

FIDA suggested that musicians were taking the short route to marketing their music with the manner they project women in lyrics and videos.

FIDA said such songs are ?a drawback to efforts to raise awareness of the need to eliminate the incidence of violence in all forms against women.?
