How many of you believe Ghanaian music group FOKN Bois is the right creative heads to cover Childish Gambino’s This Is America?
Perhaps, I am not the only one who believes they CAN execute it with finesse but hey, that will not materialize as they are not interested and the reason is very SIMPLE.
M3nsa, a member of Ghana’s most celebrated music duo known for their most unconventional way of entertaining with ingeniously tasteful shock lyrics, revolutionary performance art & indulgent progressive sounds, FOKN bois, has asked fans and critics alike to ‘f**k off” and desist from asking them to record their own cover of Childish Gambino’s This Is America.
@FOKNBOIS would you make “This is Ghana” song. I feel like you guys will address the problems here perfectly. @falzthebahdguy did one for Nigeria

@wanlov how many retweets for a THIS IS GHANA vid?

Question is, do my Gh peeps want to be in d rave, so as to say “we too, we do our own #ThisIsAmerica ? Or do they care that if it is done, it will awaken d minds of d leadership? @wanlov ‘s “50th independence” was #ThisIsGhana and y’all didn’t notice. I think it’s disrespectful

Funny enough I watched @falzthebahdguy version this morning and I was wondering who could best replicate it in Ghana. @wanlov came to mind not knowing he already has his from way back.

This comes immediately after Nigerian rapper, actor, and songwriter Falz released a cover of the song This Is Nigeria which holds up a mirror of the densely populated West African country.
Responding to a tweet by broadcast journalist Kafui Dey which announced a strike action by Lab Scientists in public hospitals and clinics around the country, M3nsa stated saying;
“Apologies 4 using this as an example 2 say “fuck off” to everyone who’s asked myself and/or @wanlov to make our version of Falz’s ‘This Is Nigeria’. We’ve dedicated ALBUMS, singles and most of our careers discussing THIS type of shit! Are you even listening??”

Indeed, his comment comes as no surprise to us at Ghana’s Hub For Pop Culture & Urban Entertainment Website – www.nydjlive.com especially as M3nsa and or Wanlov have at the least opportunity over the years spoken on issues bedevilling the Africa including corruption, poor health services, bad road networks, tribalism, religion, colonisation among other topics etc.
Ever listened to FOKN Ode to Ghana, FOKN with Ewe or any of the individual projects including How Far and the recently released Politicians Police Pastors?
Perhaps it’s simply because a majority of ‘fans’ are not listening simply because their art form is ‘out of this world’ and beyond the very ones ‘fans’ would admire. No wonder the FOKN Bois describe their ‘fans’ as ‘air conditioners’.
