The wealth of Ghanaian entertainers especially actresses have always been questioned anytime they are seen with expensive properties but Lydia Forson thinks it is wrong.

The outspoken actress on Thursday evening at the press conference of the yet-to-be-premiered movie, Sidechic Gang expressed sorrow over the notion that actors in the country are not rich enough to live a luxurious life. Answering Zionfelix.net‘s question on their source of income since they mostly complain about the meager amount given them for their services but are always seen living a flashy life, Miss Forson posited that Ghanaian actors are not poor.

Explaining herself, she disclosed that most actresses have other side jobs which fetch them income to support what the public know them for so it is offensive for one to think they get cars, houses, and travel for vacations by sleeping with men.

Lydia added that most people also do not expect them to diversify their income so they become surprised when they bump into their assets.

“We have created this stigma about filmmakers, actors and actresses that you shouldn’t be able to afford a certain way of life. It is only with actors that they think you should not be smart to diversify your income. A banker does not make that much if we are being truthful to ourselves. I know how much some of them make. I’m not saying this to discredit them but the cars they drive are mostly on loans. Some of them save penny each day but will later make big assets out of that and nobody will question their source of income.

I’m an entertainer so I’ve to be smart enough to diversify my income. Hally Berry has not done a movie in four years so why is nobody questioning her source of income but do you know that she produces. Jessica Simpson has not released a song in many years but she has a shoe line. I’m not comparing myself to them in anyway but it is offensive that when as an actress, I buy an expensive thing people will think a man bought it for me.

A boyfriend can buy a car for his woman and the lady is free but when same happens to me, I’m reduced to that’s all I have. What this creates is, a lot of young girls come into the industry with false expectations. That is why we see a lot of ladies who are not interested in acting but think there is a way to market yourself and get a man to buy you a car.

We are more than just actors. I do scriptwritting and many other things. I studied creative writing at the university for four years. I diversify my income. I can’t compare myself to someone who owns a Range Rover but I can say that I bought the car I use now with my own money.” Lydia Forson said at the Sidechich Gang press soiree.

Sidechic Gang movie features renowned Ghanaian actors like Nana Ama McBrown, Lydia Forson, Sika Osei, Adjetey Anang, Bernard Nyarko, Eddie Kufuor, Akofa Edjeane, Roselyn Ngissah, Beverly Afaglo, Christabel Ekeh, Ricky Adelayitar, Don Ziggy, Peter Richie, Kobina Sam and lots more.

The Peter Sedufia-directed film premieres on Saturday, March 3 at the Silverbirds Cinema at the Accra Mall and Westhills Mall.
