Stray Cow Causes Accident On Kanda Highway

Tue, 13 May 2003 Source: adm

About 23 passengers escaped death on Friday morning when a "tro-tro" mini bus they were travelling in from Achimota to Accra hit a cow at Nima near the Kanda Overpass.

The driver swerved to avoid crashing the Fulani Herdsman, who was also desperately trying to prevent the animal from crossing the road.

The Herdsman sensing danger took to his heels with some residents of Nima and the passengers screaming at him as he fled.

When the driver managed to control the vehicle to safety it was observed that the cow was not hurt in any way.

According to eyewitnesses the herdsman was known to be a resident in Nima.

The vehicle's fender was dented from the impact with the cow, which was however, seen, still moving about as if nothing had happened without any sign of hurt or weakness.

Speaking to the press after the incident, the driver said he was going to report the case to the Police to help him locate the owner of the animal to repair the vehicle.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has recently been warning against allowing stray animals on the streets in the Metropolis.

By coincidence, the state-owned Daily Graphic on the same morning carried a picture story of the menace of cows in the metropolis on its front page. Please see the picture and caption of the Daily Graphic below.
