Our clothes say more about us than we may realise and it only gets better when we know how to rock them right and also where and where to wear certain clothes to.

I take a look at certain key areas which one must take into account in our every day clothing activity.

1. It’s always wise to wear undershirts because if you are in a climate that’s warm it’s wise you wear a simple plain cotton undershirt which will help absorb the moisture in your body because you wouldn’t like to be in a position of authority and be seen in public giving an address with sweat patches all over your armpit and with underwear you wouldn’t want to be titillated in a way and you have an erection showing through your trousers in public

2. It’s also wise to understand that if you are somebody who likes to wear suspenders or braces as we call them, don’t wear it with a belt. You need only one to hold your trousers up so make a decision, suspenders or belt, not both.

3. If you are somebody who likes to wear cloth, the way we wear cloth in Asanteman is that we don’t wear cloth with a jumper but in Fanteland you can wear cloth with a jumper. Interestingly I have been made to understand that in Kwame Nkrumah’s administration he talks about the fact that it was wise for our ambassadors to wear their kente with a jumper because he felt that it wasn’t in the best interest of all to be seen in public with your armpit on display so on the world stage it was his desire that those who could should wear their kente and their cloth with a jumper beneath and I think that is a good idea.

4. Also, I think it’s important to understand that for those who like to wear kaftans if you are going to wear an undershirt underneath, don’t let your kaftan slit so low that it displays your singlet or your undershirt. Under is supposed to be under so whether it’s a woman’s brazier or a man’s undershirt, it’s meant to be underneath and not on display.

5. And for those who like suits remember there are two or three buttons on your single breasted button and mind you that the lowest button is there for the ignorance to close and not there to be closed so the lowest button on your jacket must always be left unbuttoned.
