Cape Coast, June 21, GNA - Bernard Garbrah, a 19-year-old mason who allegedly chopped off two fingers of a 20-year old student of Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School over a girl, on Monday appeared before Circuit Court in Cape Coast.
Garbrah pleaded not guilty to causing harm and was granted a 10 million cedi bail until July 8.
Testifying before the Court on Monday, Master William Acquah Mensah, the student, alleged that some time last year, Garbrah warned him off a girl he (Garbrah) claimed to be his girlfriend. He also alleged that as Garbrah kept picking petty quarrels with him after their first encounter he reported the matter to his father, who advised him to stop talking to the girl, to which he complied. Master Mensah further alleged that, while he was on his way to school, on April 11, Garbrah, who was wielding a cutlass, attempted to slash him on the neck, but he fended it off with both hands and in the process two of his left fingers were chopped off, while he received deep cuts on the right wrist and thumb.
Master Mensah said his shout attracted some neighbours to the scene who took him to the Central Regional Hospital, where he was admitted for three days.
The prosecution had told the court that Garbrah attacked Master Mensah on April 11 this year, on suspicion that he was having an affair with his girlfriend.
It said Garbrah fled Cape Coast after the attack, but was arrested on May 5, following a tip-off.
