Sunyani Police pursue colleagues' assailants

Sunyani, July 27, GNA - The Police at Sunyani have mounted a search for one Dickson, also called DD and an unidentified gang for assaulting three policemen at Kenyase in Brong Ahafo.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the incident, Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer said on July 18 this year, District Sergeant Major Alhassan Amajo, Sergeant J.K. Nyarko and Corporal Kojo Labinga went to town to arrest Dickson who was wanted for an abduction case. He said when the policemen spotted Dickson at a drinking bar and invited him to the Police Station, he refused and in an ensuing struggle a brother of the suspect and some other persons at the bar assisted him to escape arrest while they seriously assaulted the three policemen.

The PRO said Sergeant Nyarko and Corporal Labinga sustained serious injuries and their uniforms were torn into pieces. He said the two policemen were sent to the Kenyase Health Centre where they were treated and discharged. Inspector Tawiah said the suspects have since absconded from the town and appealed to the public to provide information to the police for their arrest.
