Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, known identified by his stage name D-Black has responded to a tweet by Shatta Wale saying money is the only means to promote budding artistes.
Reacting to the tweet from the dancehall artiste which he indirectly criticized Sarkodie’s Sarkcess Music Label for refusing to invest in the artiste he signed because he is broke, the Black Avenue Boss said he totally disagrees with Shatta Wale’s notion.
D-Black explained that there is more to managing an artiste than just the financial aspect that most people only focus on.
“I don’t agree with him. I think pushing an artiste is not just about the money. It’s about the artiste himself as well. If you don’t wake up every single morning thinking about how to promote your music. No matter how much money is pumped into you, it won’t work.” D Black said
Speaking to KOD and Cookietee on the Starr Drive on Starr 103.5Fm, the ‘Vera’ hitmaker said the artiste as an individual also needs to help the management by making it easier for his career to be promoted and recognized.
He stated that an artiste needs to involve himself as much as the manager because although the cost may not be on him, the success of his career depends on him.
“The fans want a personal connection with the musician. You can’t put money and shoot expensive videos and expect it to automatically turn into a hit record, No. Talk to the fans, connect with the fans, and engage them on social media. Do interviews and be ready to do free shows. It’s a whole package. It’s not just about the money.” D-Black added.
