A 45-year-old farmer, Kofi Owudo, who suspected a colleague farmer of flirting with his wife, has attacked the latter and inflicted a deep cut on his brow.
As though that was not enough, Owudo allegedly pummelled his victim, Herbert Asante into unconsciousness and fled. Owudo has pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing harm before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court.
He told the court that he had warned Asante on several occasions to stay off his wife and that he caught Asante that fateful night whispering to his wife behind their window and that resulted in a fight between them.
The court presided over by Mr Paul Kwesi Richardson granted Owudo bail with a surety until March 18.
Police Inspector Comfort Darko told the court that at about 8.30 p.m. on February 18, this year, Asante was walking along a footpath on his way to visit his fiancee at Kuntanase when suddenly someone held him from behind. He turned round and saw Owudo holding an object with which he hit him (Asante) on the brow, flooring him instantly.
She said Asante sustained a deep cut on his brow. As though that was snot enough, Owudo pummelled the screaming Asante into unconscious and fled, mistaking him to be dead.
Inspector Darko said Mr Yaw Yeboah, heard the screams of Asante and came to his aid, rushed him to the Breman Asikuma Catholic Mission Hospital where he was admitted for a week.
The prosecutor said the doctor declared Asante partially blind as a result of the deep cut on his eye brow. She said the local chief heard of the case and caused the arrest of Owudo and handed him over to the police.
