Accra, March 12, GNA - The National Symphony Orchestra, at the weekend whip-up public enthusiasm towards the modernisation of smock- a traditional northern Ghana dress with masterly classical rendition of traditional songs and contemporary beats.
The Orchestra interplayed their classical tunes with African sound beats amidst chorographic performance to the admiration of the large audience at the 2nd Savannah Smock Exhibition and Fashion show. The show on the theme: 93Promoting the Smock for Economic Empowerment," was organised by the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture to promote the various types of smocks, fabrics and accessories from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.
It was aimed at educating the public about the symbolism related to the garment and its modernised stylish usages.
Typical of the Orchestra, the artistes used their string instruments to play local tunes that fit perfectly to create a harmonious musical ambiance for the inspection of the smocks on exhibition as well as the catwalk by the models. 12 March 11
