Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse Ghana, Robert Klah, has shed light on how decisions are made regarding nominations for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on March 16, 2026, Robert Klah clarified that the process is solely handled by the TGMA Board and not influenced by external opinions.

According to him, debates and disagreements are a natural part of the decision-making process within the board.

“It’s not the mandate, and that is really the preserve of the board. All of the back and forth happens there, so it’s not like the board gets up and decides we are all going in one direction and everyone agrees,” he explained.

He noted that just like the public, members of the board also engage in extensive discussions before arriving at a final decision.

“Everything that happens in the media space in terms of who should take what, the board also does it. When they finish, a decision is made based on specifics and that’s what we have now,” he stated.

Addressing concerns about omissions from certain categories, Robert Klah indicated that several factors come into play, especially the competitive nature of the industry.

“For any reason, if anyone is not in any category, then it’s one of many things. Depending on the category in question, it could be that the person just couldn’t make the cut in comparison to the others in the space because it’s inherently competitive,” he said.

He emphasised that nominations are not based on isolated achievements but rather on how artistes perform relative to their peers within the same period.

“You don’t have just one person doing well and that’s all, but you have one person doing well in comparison to what they’ve done,” he shared.

Robert Klah further stated that decisions are made after carefully reviewing all available data and insights.

“These things are determined based on our global view of the information we have. We put all these elements together, then we make a decision,” he noted.

He added that while public debates are understandable, the board’s final decisions are guided by a broader assessment of industry performance.

“I sometimes understand the arguments about what people are able to have. There were arguments about some people deserving of some categories, but then again, when you look at all the other information that we have, that’s what informs the decision that has been made,” he added.
