Ghanaian Dancehall/Reggae artiste Stonebwoy has voiced his opinion on the heated discussions that took place on various platforms in the lead-up to the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Six artistes including King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy made it to the Artiste of the Year category.

However, debates seemed to centre on only Stonebwoy and Afrobeat artiste King Promise.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on 7th June 2024, Stonebwoy said he was concerned that limiting the conversation to just two artistes undermined the hard work of all the nominees.

He said he wished that attention was spread across all contenders to ensure a fair and factual competition.

“At the point where I actually chanced into it properly, I felt that attention would have been spread out across all the nominees because it wasn't only a Stonebwoy and a King Promise thing.

“I felt that if it (attention) was spread across all five or six of us, it would have been a thing of fact. But limiting it to two artistes took away the fact that all these people have worked.

“So in the heat of it, I was just feeling that way. Because I put myself in the shoes of the others, what if Stonebwoy was not in the top two? That would be disheartening. Then it would breed a little bit of resentment and then some sort of unhealthy competition,” he said.

The TGMAs

The 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) which unfolded at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on July 1, 2024, was a night of celebration and recognition of the talent in the Ghanaian music scene.

The competition was fierce, but Stonebwoy stood out as the evening's top gainer, taking home a total of six awards including the prestigious Artiste of the Year award.

Aside from that, there were a lot of side attractions on the night of the event; from the red carpet to the performances to the dozens of winners, it was a night to remember.
