Ghanaian entertainment pundit and media personality Nana Romeo expressed disappointment over the lack of regard shown by artistes towards the recently held Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on June 8, 2024, Nana Romeo cited cases where some artistes, including notable names like Kofi Kinaata and Kuami Eugene, did not bother to accept their awards in person, despite being present at the event.

"My issue is with the reception of the award plaques. Most of the artistes who attended the award ceremony disregarded it. Many of them didn’t even bother to come up to receive their awards.

"Kofi Kinaata was there, his name was called for the Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, but he didn’t go up to receive it. Kuami Eugene was also present, but he refused to go up to collect his award.

"Same with King Paluta; the first time he was called, Andy Dosty went to take his award for him, maybe they were preparing for their performances, I don't know," he lamented.

He pointed out the irony of artistes calling for more support for the creative arts industry yet refusing to support events meant to celebrate their achievements.

"They say the industry lacks support, but when it's time for them to support something related to the industry, they drag their feet. They don't even share flyers for the upcoming awards.

"The only person I saw actively sharing the awards' publicity was Stonebwoy. Maybe that's why he was blessed and won the Artiste of the Year award," he told MzGee, the host of the show.

Nana Romeo also criticized the artists' behaviour towards the red carpet.

He stated that most of them did not bother to attend the event, leading to social media influencers filling the gap.

He also mentioned instances of bodyguards harassing individuals trying to take photos, a behaviour he remarked is not seen with artists from other countries.

"Look at the red carpet; they don’t even show up. Maybe that’s why they allowed social media influencers to come on the red carpet.

"Even when they do and someone wants to take a picture, the bodyguards harass them. You don’t see that with artists from other countries," he said.
