The 2024 TGMAs gave us a night to remember (maybe)
The 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards has long ended, but the aftertaste still lingers. While for many, it was a great night, for some, it was a stale, non-stimulating night of the usual speeches and award-giving ceremonies.
But let’s single out one major part of the night, the performances. From the best to the worst, here are all the performances at the 2024 TGMAs.
1. Amakye Dede and Tributes:
Nothing beats the old. Veteran Highlife artiste Amakye Dede was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his many years of entertaining and impacting Ghanaians.
This was graced by an outstanding tribute performance from some musicians, including Kwabena Kwabena, Akwaboah, Eno Barony, Episode, and Fameye.
The team added their own unique styles to some of Amakye Dede’s greatest hits, much to the amazement of the audience.
But what stood out was when the man himself took a microphone and gave the audience a surprisingly energetic performance.
2. Stonebwoy:
From an outstanding entrance to a soothing performance, the melodies, the costume, the lighting, the sound, the symbolism, and everything.
After an unforgettable 2023 complete with an Album of the Year and a world tour, Stonebwoy brought the perfect epilogue to his 5th Dimension tour to the TGMA stage, showing us why he is the Artiste of the Year.
3. Hiplife Party:
It would have been great to single out each of the artistes that came up, but let's combine and say a party controlled by DJ Andy Dosty, with T-Blaze, Mzbel, Okyeame Kwame, Akatakyie, and Reggie Rockstone, reminding the audience of Ghana's rich hiplife history was everything one could imagine and more.
4. Efya:
Say what you want about her, the queen never disappoints. Right from the lighting to the stage entrance to the costumes, to the energy on stage, Efya once again proved she is the best at what she does.
5. Mr Drew:
Despite the low energy and the technical issues, Mr Drew gave a great performance, putting some spirit into a weary audience. Wouldn’t give him all the blame.
6. Nacee:
The Gospel artiste brought a much needed calm into the auditorium while at the same time reviving the show from a not-so-great start.
7. Kuami Eugene:
Maybe it was due to the turbulent early part of the year, or the technical issues on stage and backstage, but Kuami Eugene’s performance, although spectacular, didn't match up to what he is known to be capable of.
8. King Paluta:
Was alright.
9. FRA!:
Energy!!
10. King Promise:
The most anticipated performance was supposed to be the start of a great night.
But it was befuddled by technical issues, poor sound quality, and a poor attempt at a cover-up by the technical team.
Or could some of the blame go to King Promise himself?
