It’s Saturday, been looking forward to it. The weekend is always welcomed as usual. I am sure the same goes for everybody not withstanding the different reasons we may harbor for this anxious wait. But whatever our reasons may be, we all have one thing in common, we can’t wait to get that last working day of the week out of the way. Friday I dare say would have been the most hated day of the week had it not been for Monday. With Friday, It’s like Saturday so close yet so far away. Am sure we’ve all experienced that feeling. The last hurdle or bit of every endeavour is usually the most difficult so they say. I very much as it were labour through my Fridays, hoping to make it till Saturday. We all have things that we do on weekends that to each of us is sacred. For most people it is time with family and friends. When some are busily dancing their hearts out at parties, others become funeral and wedding contractors, some farmers, others hunters, whiles some just sit on the couch and enjoy most of the sports action on tv. Well, I represent the latter. Again, regardless of what you do on weekends, it is certainly an alternative to what you do during the normal working week. The weekend is most definitely a time to catch our breaths. Do not for a second think this column will be about life, women, love, romance or movies. This is a purely frank and straight to the heart, dispassionate assessment of all the sporting events over the weekend. Ok not exactly, I lied. It’s more or less about football. I WILL be biased towards football (not lying here) and yes, I will be a little opinionated. You might not agree with most of the things I say and I understand, its football. You are all invited to criticize or join in the debate and again, there would be lots of it. In fact I thrive on the debate. It’s football, football and some more football. All football loving fans, this is the place to be, you’ve yearned for it, now you’ve got it. Join me; let’s debate, like we do it in our rooms on campus, homes, and workplaces or at the “usual” over some drinks. I would love to hear from you boys-boys (and of course our beautiful ladies are most certainly invited, as long as you love football). Besides I don’t care if you hate me, well am talking to those ladies who don’t like football. You will be seeing a lot from me for some time to come. There are three things you can do. First and most importantly, you can become a disciple of this ‘noble’ course and it’s easy. All you need to do is to sit back relax and enjoy the LIVE games, game after game for that matter. Or you can choose to tolerate your man, brother, father, granddad or great granddad who will be a soldier for this course. Or you can go right ahead and hate. Since we are in a democracy, that’s fine with me, it’s your choice. But I promise one thing, I will be the mouthpiece for all those long suffering football crazed partners of yours. Yes we have a life too. Enough is enough. No more telenovelas and Nigerian movies even if we don’t want to and especially when we don’t want to watch. I will say all that they’ve always wanted to say but have been unable to for fear of losing you. Of course they love you, but they love football more. So they might invariably tell me stuff that ought to be confidential, but I won’t hesitate to put it out there. Liberation has come. Expect some little resistance leading to some petty squabbles at home. Trust me, it’s all for the best. Well, I’d leave it here for today. Till I come your way same time next week with my mat spread on the floor in front of my big ass flat screen tv, some chicken and beer on the side, my remote control in hand, it’s 12:30, let’s get it on! Premier league football, Seria A, La Liga, some late night Brazilian league action as well as some local football via my akasanoma(radio set).
