Veteran actor Fred Nii Yatey Amugi
Retired civil servant and veteran actor Fred Nii Yatey Amugi has said agitation by most stakeholders in the movie industry about lack of jobs in the acting space can be reconsidered if the days of old is reinstituted.
He said, many years back, actors and actresses were engaged in an educative and lucrative television and radio Theatre which made the industry thriving but unfortunately it has been scraped off.
According to Mr. Amugi, television and radio theatre and stage drama are the key elements which prepare every actor to take up challenging roles in movies.
“The CEO of GBC, Kwame Anoff was the producer and director of TV and Radio theatre series at the time. I hope he brings back TV and Radio Theatre to give some actors job to do,” Mr. Fred Amugi told Mikki Osei Berko on After House on TV3.
Fred Amugi is widely known for playing the armed robber, the scammer, the drug dealer, the hitman any kind of criminal and bad boy role you can think of.
However, this Ghollywood legend, known in real life as Fred Nii Amugi leads an ambivalent lifestyle. Off the set, he is a deeply religious, nice, clean cut guy.
He started out in showbiz as a Gospel musician. He was part of an Accapella Gospel music group that started at La, Accra consisting of Reginald Tei Agovor, Kinsley Asare Addo, Joseph Omaboe, David Agovor, Stephen Bell Bampoe and Fred Amugi at their La Presbyterian Church.
They were known as the Epiphany Echoes.
Fred believes that music brought him fame before Ghollywood did but admits making movies took his popularity to another level.
