'Taking weed cools the brain' - Darkovibes

Ghanaian musician, Darkovibes, has disclosed why he and some artistes smoke marijuana before stage performances and during studio recording sessions.

Speaking on 3FM Drive on October 1, 2024, Darkovibes explained that they use marijuana purposely to relax their minds.

"We don’t walk around with stuff like that. If we are singing and recording songs, then we use it to cool our brains because sometimes we sing for the whole day, 24 hours or 48 hours. So, it’s just to cool the brains a bit," he stated.

Darkovibes clarified that while he is advocating for marijuana, he avoids carrying it around in public and he complies with authorities during searches whiles driving.

"They search me. I even allow myself to be searched because if I have a gun or knife on me, they can arrest me, but I don’t even walk around with that," he added.

He also recalled past incidents where he was arrested for carrying marijuana and stressed that advocacy does not mean irresponsible behavior.

Meanwhile, Ghana's Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 1019) has legalised the cultivation of cannabis for medical and industrial purposes, reflecting a shift in the country's approach to marijuana.
