Taxi Driver in custody for assaulting a Police Officer

Accra, Jan. 22, GNA- A Taxi driver, Zubaru Moro, accused of assaulting a Police Officer and destroying a handcuff was on Thursday remanded in prison custody for one week to reappear before an Accra Circuit Court on January 29.

He pleaded not guilty to assaulting a police officer and causing unlawful damage.

Police Inspector Benette Sarfo, told the court that the accused was arrested on January 22, this year for driving carelessly and nearly ran into a vehicle in which Detective Emmanuel Commey was driving a suspect to the court on that day.

Prosecution said when Cpl Commey identified himself as a police officer and questioned accused why he drove recklessly the accused became offended.

He said Moro resisted arrest and tore the police officer's dress and assaulted him as well as destroying a handcuff. The accused was however over powered after inflicting bruises on the police officer.
