Goaso (B/A), May 18, GNA - The Goaso circuit court has sentenced a 25-year-old primary school teacher to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old primary school girl. Thomas Acheampong of Ataa-Bator Local Authority Primary School, near Camp 15 in the Juabeso-Bia District of the Western Region was convicted on his plea of guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector J.W. Ogboso of the Fosukrom police station told the court that at about 0830 hours on April 2, this year, the accused asked the girl to send some books to his home but he clandestinely followed her into his room and sexually defiled her. The prosecutor said the girl narrated the incident to her father on her return home, defying a stern warning from the teacher not to inform anybody about her ordeal.

Inspector Ogboso said when the girl's father and the Headteacher accompanied her to verify the truth from him, Acheampong readily admitted the offence.

He pleaded for an amicable settlement and would bear all financial commitments but the girl's parents refused and handed him over to the police at Fosukrom.
