Bolgatanga, Jan 1, GNA- The maiden draw of the Ghana Telecom new one-million-cedis-a-day raffle in the Upper East Region rolled off in Bolgatanga on Wednesday.

Mr Alhassan Kamper of the Bolgatanga branch of Ghana Post won with the serial card No.07671940. He was presented with the amount in cash. Mr Alhassan expressed gratitude to the organisers, saying the draw is very transparent.

The Regional Director of Ghana Telecom, Mr. Awudu Musah, said the region still has two more draws to be drawn in Navrongo on January 15, while that of Bawku would be held on January 29.

He appealed to customers to keep trying their luck until the final and biggest draw to be held later in Accra.

Mr Awudu assured customers that telephone lines in the country would be increased from 250,000 lines to 400,000 lines within the next two years.

He appealed to customers to pay their bills promptly to enable the company to render better services because everything in the telecom sector is imported except the poles.

The Bolga-Naba Martin Abilba III, who picked the draw said P&T services in Bolgatanga have improved tremendously in recent times, and urged customers to contribute their quota by paying for services rendered.

Mr. Charles Abu, marketing manager for Ghana Telecom, said the motive for the raffles is to offer bonuses to the company's customers. "That is why workers of Telecom are disqualified from participating in the draw."
