Tema court remands cellular phone thief

Tema, April 20, GNA- A driver's mate who snatched a Samsung mobile phone valued at 2.5 million cedis from a retired WO1 at Ashaiman has been remanded by the Tema Circuit Court "A".

Issifu Jibrilla also called Babamu, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing and will reappear on May 12.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that, on April 9, this year, the complainant was waiting for transport to go to Michael Camp at the Ashaiman traffic light area at about 21 hours.

While waiting, the accused snatched the Samsung N620 cellular phone valued at 2.5 million cedis from his hand and bolted. Inspector Otctere said the accused went and gave the phone to a witness for safekeeping, and a report was lodged with the Ashaiman police. Thereafter, the accused was arrested by some civilians and handed over to the police.

In his cautioned statement, the accused admitted the offence and was subsequently charged. 20 April 04
