The Amu Theatre, University of Education, Winneba will host Godfred Asare Yeboah, Samuel Arko Mensah and their team of actors and crew as they stage two plays in November.

While ‘The Fall of Kumbi’ is scheduled for November 8-10, ‘Death of the King’s Horseman’ is expected to come off on November 15-17 at 7pm each night.

‘Death and the King’s Horseman’ written by Wole Soyinka, tells the story of Elesin, the king’s horseman, who is expected to commit ritual suicide following the death of the king, but who is distracted from his duty by the love of a young lady.

The play alters the historical facts, placing the responsibility for Elesin’s failure squarely on Elesin’s shoulders, so that he might focus on the theme of duty rather than any other distraction. When one fails to do his duty, Who suffers?

Written by Mohammed Ben-Abdallah, ‘The Fall of Kumbi’ on the other hand tells the story of a historical grand wedding between Aklilu the prince of Audoghast and Zainata a Tuareg princess. The heart of the bride is with another man, the prince of Kumbi Saleh the fabled city of gold.

The morning of the wedding breaks and lo, there is no bride! While Audoghast sleeps, Amu Diata, the prince of the land of wealth and power elopes with their princess.

Feeling betrayed by one of his own, prince Aklilu seeks counsel from Ibn Yacin and joins forces with the moors. They invade Kumbi Saleh to kill, loot, enslave and give up many of their victims of war in servitude in distant land.

Lovers of stage productions and folks who would want to have the experience cannot afford to miss ‘The Fall of Kumbi’ and ‘Death and the King’s Horseman’ as the two plays will be worth their time.
