The Queens of the VGMA red carpet

So which of our stars ruled the red carpet at last weekend’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards? While there were many well dressed male celebrities on the night including Adjetey Anang, Van Vicker, and of course the several wardrobe changes from host of the ceremony, Chris Attoh, the night was for the ladies –especially those who put in a lot of effort to turn heads for the right reasons.
Increasingly it appears that actress and TV host, Joselyn Dumas is one to watch on red carpets. After winning me over with her hand-beaded champagne dress by Duaba Serwaa at the 2011 Ghana Movie Awards, she came out in other Duaba Serwaa gown last Saturday. This time, it was a sleeveless and open over-bust corset with beaded details over a black flowing linen bottom. Her hair looked lovely and suited her face and the dress over all. Serwaa Duaba was also the choice for host of Fashion 101, Sandra Ankobiah who opted for a shimmering paneled gown with black long sleeves. At least no one can say that Sandra can’t scrutinize what the stars wore on the night, looking like that!

Wife of Sulley Muntari, Menaye Donkor looked simply stunning in an elegant lemon floor-length gown with a black sash accentuating her waist by Vionnet. She styled it with a black clutch bag and Dolce & Gabanna shoes. Still on yellow, singer Becca showed her curves well in her figure-hugging gown from Peachy Purr, which was well textured and well fitted. But perhaps it would have looked better in a darker tone; she was looking a bit like a sunflower. Female singer/rapper, Eazzy also looked glamorous with her short wrapped hair and a short black dress from Eleanor’s Closet. She looked like a movie star from a 1980 movie. The ever-young performing artist and diva, Stephanie Benson also looked stunning in a Terence Nolder black evening gown.

Other stars that caught my eyes included Gena West who looked elegant in her black Robero Cavalli gown, and without her baby bump that was revealed at the start of the new season of Vodafone Icons. It seems the winners of Vodafone Icons season 1, RnM picked up some fashion sense from judges Gena West and Stephanie Benson. RnM members, Stephanie and Natasha opted for African print in very interesting styles, and thank goodness they weren’t in matching dresses this time! Here are some of my other picks from the red carpet.
