'The age of consent in Ghana is 16' – Vim Lady defends MzGee over 'sleeping with bosses' claims

Media personality Afua Pokua, also known as Vim Lady, has defended her colleague MzGee against accusations by Afia Schwarzenegger that she progressed in her journalism career by offering sexual favours.

Earlier in an attempt to criticize MzGee for her conduct during an interview with Medikal, Afia Schwarzenegger made numerous accusations against the United Showbiz host, including claims of intimate relationships with certain colleagues and superiors.

Afia Schwarzenegger alleged intimate encounters between MzGee and various notable individuals in the media industry, among them is MzGee's husband, who previously held a supervisory role over her.

However, Vim Lady, who has been monitoring the situation, stated that even if MzGee were to engage in such activities, she is a consenting adult.

Vim Lady addressed the issue in a widely circulated video, expressing concern:

“You hear someone accusing MzGee of sleeping with this person, that person. Seriously in Ghana, the age for consent is 16. So, such attacks on her personality are bad and disturbing. They are even dragging her husband into this. What kind of sense of entitlement is this?” she quizzed.

Vim Lady, however, urged Medikal and his supporters to show moderation in their public outbursts, noting that the entertainment industry is fraught with both negative and positive aspects.

“I understand Medikal’s point that he achieved something positive and even BBC spoke about it so the Ghanaian media should also be positive about it. But if you take a close look at this, you’ll realize that MzGee was positive.

"Celebrities are aware that this job and the entire industry comes with a bit of negative happenings. Medikal and his fan base should exercise restraint. The Shatta Movement fanbase should also do the same. Certain things appear negative but are not exactly negative,” she retorted.

Vim Lady, with over two decades of experience in journalism, remarked, "As someone who has practised journalism for over 20 years, there is this saying that there is nothing like bad news. The media is not perfect and it’s not all our interviews that will be perfect. We won’t be able to ask all the right questions. You as the guest being interviewed can decide what to give your energy to.”

MzGee has faced criticism for allegedly attempting to overshadow Medikal's accomplishments with irrelevant questions.

Medikal, supported by Shatta Wale and Afia Schwarzenegger, has strongly condemned the United Showbiz host on social media, using harsh words and dragging her employers into the controversy.

While sharing a video of her interview with Medikal on social media as a response to her critics, MzGee, without equivocation said she never had any amorous relationship with her boss.

She wrote: "And oh, so we don't get swayed, not every soaring female personality had to sleep with her boss, her superior, her peers, or even her subordinate to excel or get recognized. I have said this on so many platforms. Never have I slept with any of my bosses.

"Don't rubbish hard work. Hard work truly pays. In fact, those who I have worked for or have worked with me can tell that I am a workaholic."
