The country is in your hands, we need excellent communication from you - KSM to EC

Ghanaian comedian and media personality Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as "KSM," has called on the Electoral Commission of Ghana, to be more transparent with Ghanaians and develop the habit of addressing concerns the body may be involved in.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, the ‘KSM Show,’ host pointed out the critical role the EC plays in shaping the nation's future and expressed that even seemingly minor issues should not be overlooked.

He urged the Commission to address any irregularities promptly, especially in light of growing concerns over the alleged disappearance of Biometric Verification Device (BVD) machines from the Commission's office.

“To the office of the Electoral Commission, please. Everything is in your hands. You are holding now the future of Ghana in your hands. There are too many little things of late.

"But as the electoral commission please, whatever it is, no matter how petty it sounds, clear it because you don't want to leave the people thinking that some irregularities are going on,” he said.

KSM pointed out that such incidents could lead to suspicions of election rigging, which he clarified does not necessarily occur on election day but can result from various actions leading up to it.

He stressed the need for the Commission to explain the situation, detail the steps being taken to recover the machines and discuss how their absence might affect the election.

“All I'm saying is that we as a people, getting into the election require some excellent communication from the office of the EC to explain things, be on the same page with us and explain the said machines that are missing. ‘This is what we are doing to recover them or this and this is what we are doing. But let's not dismiss it we can't be dismissive unless it is so nothing," he said.

The upcoming general elections in Ghana are set for December 7, 2024. This pivotal event will see the transition of presidential power, with President Nana Akufo-Addo stepping down after his second term.

The main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have nominated John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their presidential candidates, respectively.

The elections are expected to be closely contested, reflecting the current parity in Parliament.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana is overseeing the process, which includes continuous voter registration and potential televised debates.
