On Monday May 2 2016, television personality Berla Mundi announced the winner of the Unsung Category at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards after being furnished with collated results from KPMG during a live television programme, Rhythmz Show on GhOne TV.
The announcement of the winner, Adomaa, has since been met with varying opinions with many including radio DJs and industry personalities asking who she is considering the fact that the other nominees in the same category were somehow more visible and louder than she was in the year under criticism.
The worst of it all was when an artist manager Kwasi Ernest in an interview disclosed the winner was an upcoming artist and deserved to play with Talented Kidz; a television programme aimed at unearthing and building the talents of young individuals. Such an insult. Well, he has apologized.
Below is his post.
“Why am I not surprised a bunch of people including DJs are complaining about Adomaa winning the Unsung Category at this year’s VGMAs?
See, radio presenters, DJs and the general public are used to playing and listening to songs from well established artists or either focused on “gboom gboom gbang gbang’ danceable songs.
Pretty sure you ever came across her song online but didn’t pay attention cos she’s not Sarkodie, Edem, Shatta Wale or E.L.
No room for less hyped but talented artists out there. Same thing happened with Dark Suburb last year. They asked the same questions.
Adomaa is a bag of talent.
Pay attention to alternate music and hey, the thing was even based on votes. Did you vote? If not, shush”
In as much as I believe they have a cause to voice out their opinions just as I have put mine in writing, I believe the sense of objectivity must not be thrown to the dogs.
