Techiman, Aug 15, GNA- The Techiman Circuit Court on Friday acquitted and discharged a 25-year-old farm labourer who stole two sheep because he has been penalised for his wrongdoing by breaking his legs while escaping.
Alhassan Sawadogo pleaded guilty and confessed that he had been punished by "God as he fell into a deep pit and broke his leg in an attempt to escape with the animals.
He pleaded with the Judge not to jail him "because stealing is not a good job and I have already been judged by God." Mr Gyinae acknowledged that the accused has been punished enough and that if he jailed him with the broken leg, he would be a liability to the state.
Chief Inspector Sampson Jebuni told the court that on July 29, Sawadogo and a friend, Kofi Tenti who is on the run, stole the two rams from Mr Kwaku Donyina's pen.
A motorist who suspected that they had stolen the animals challenged them but they abandoned the animals and took to their heels into the bush.
The prosecutor said the accused fell into a deep pit and remained there.
Chief Inspector Yebuni said the motorist took the animals and later reported the matter to the to the Police.
