Throwback Photo: Mrs Theresah Aba Kufour (then and now)

Former First Lady Mrs Theresa Kufuor turned 80 on October 25, 2015.

To celebrate this milestone, the mother-of-five and wife of Former President of Ghana John Agyekum Kufuor hosted a birthday party.

The party was graced by several top personalities including President John Dramani Mahama, and her hubby Ex-President Kufuor.

Mrs Theresa Aba Kufuor, a devout Roman Catholic, is a mother of five and a grandmother of eight. She is a retired nurse and midwife with expertise in Nursing Management/Administration.

She started her education at the Catholic Convent, OLA, at Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana. She later went to London where she was educated as a Registered General Nurse, in the Southern Hospital Group of Nursing. Edinburgh, Scotland.

She became a State Certified Midwife with a Certificate in Premature Nursing from the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford and Paddington General, London.

She also was a Manager/Administrator at the Royal College of Nursing in London. It was in London that she met and married Mr J. A. Kufuor. Her greatest passion is children.

She is a great believer of the importance of early learning opportunities for children because according to her, the early beginnings of a child determine what he or she becomes in future. She is the founder and chief patron of the Mother and Child Community Development Foundation.

The foundation is a charitable non-profit-making organisation, which has been established with a view to advancing a programme of assistance and development in deprived areas.

The Foundation is also currently engaged in the establishment of nursery schools in densely populated poor communities; establishment of counselling centres for young mothers who have dropped out of school with the possibility of putting them back in school; training of young single mothers to acquire skills for financial empowerment; and fight against the stigmatisation of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Mrs Kufuor, as a Roman Catholic, loves singing and shows this by her committed membership of the Church Choir. She is a forward-looking woman, who is known to have supported her husband enthusiastically in his campaign for the presidency.
