Today on Throwback Thursday, we take a step back to revisit a man whose love for music led him to record a simple freestyle video that skyrocketed his career, making him one of the names that cannot be overlooked in Ghanaian rap: Daddie Opanka.

Born Armstrong Affum, Opanka is a rapper, composer, and songwriter from Tema who uses rap as an avenue to tell stories.

He rose to popularity in 2012 when he freestyled “Simple”, a song by the popular Ghanaian music duo Bradez.

Opanka built on the popularity of that freestyle and released his first single, “Taste”, which gained massive attention and earned him a loyal fanbase known as the Opanka Army.
