Renowned Reggae Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has shared his reasons for not throwing money at fans during his performances.
He explained that while throwing money at fans can be seen as a generous act, it often fails to achieve the true purpose of giving, as some individuals may end up with more money than others.
Additionally, he pointed out that people often get injured in the rush to grab the money, which undermines the intended goodwill.
Stonebwoy noted that he prefers to give money directly to individuals during his performances to avoid disrespecting others.
“I don’t like throwing money at fans, but we are Ghanaians, so sometimes our perspectives differ. I think it’s disrespectful. If I throw money into the crowd, one person could get more than the others. So, I prefer giving it to people individually when the time is right rather than throwing it. Even then, many people suffer casualties that we don’t hear about.
“As we throw money from a convoy, people get injured all the time. People accuse me of not throwing money, but it’s for these reasons. So, I time it and give the money at the right moment. It’s good to throw money at fans, but it doesn’t really fulfill the purpose of giving,” he said in Twi in a video shared on Instagram by aba.the.great.
Stonebwoy is the reigning 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year and has won the award on two occasions.
