His genetic musical talent and peculiar style makes him a master in his own right. Anthony Komla Dargbey, known in musical circles as Tony D, the pride of the Volta is now a household name, who?s ?Mawuko? gospel album shot him to instant fame in Ghana about two years ago.
Tony D, whose brand of indigenous gospel tracks, interspersed with both Ewe and English language, has made him quite different from the lot, has released another album entitled ?Mawulolo?, meaning God is great.
The music on this latest eight-track album which is yet to be launched, is doing well on the airwaves and the market, stings, titillates and is superb by all standards. If Mawuko is still fresh on your minds, then you can appreciate the weight behind Mawulolo, if not, try the solid lyrical composition and arrangements of this new album.
The original Tony D style, which comes in the form of showing immense love and praises to God is what he brings along. Tracks on the latest album are ?Minanu?, ?Megavoo?, ?Srodede? and ?Do Nu De Mawu Nu?. On the other side, we have ?In Jesus Name?, ?Jesus will Never Fail Me?, ?How Long? and ?Mawulolo? which completes the selection with a massive bang!
Tony D, who was born and lived in Ho, comes from a family where his relatives had lot to do with music. His late father was a saxophonist and also the first man to form a dance band (Volta Pioneer Band) in the Volta Region in the late seventies.
While in Nigeria in the late 80?s as a fashion designer, he realised the music talent in him and started working on his first album ?Think a little? which was later released in Ghana in 1995. Other albums being; ?The Messiah?, a political song, ?Yesulevavage? a gospel music, traditional touch volumes 1 and 2, gospel Boboobo, and the seventh album ?Mawuko?, the hit track, has since its release won the best gospel music in 2002 in the Volta Region.
The eight-track album is recorded and mixed at the Tony D. Digital Recording Studio in the Volta Region.
