Top NPP Politicos Named!

According to Mr Abotsi, speaking on ?an Accra based radio station at 6am last Saturday, certain drug-related monies from Mr Amoateng?s account have been traced to the accounts of leading members of the ruling NPP, and that even though he is in possession of the names, it is premature for him to release them now.

?Ghana Palaver? has however independently been able to obtain the names of two of the very high-profile NPP members who have been linked to the heroin-smuggling ring. We can say no more than that for now; except that they are both lawyers and they are both Members of Parliament.

Prior to the latest information, rumours had been rife that the NPP, as a party, or some of its officials and its members are heavily involved in drug trafficking. Some of the rumours have suggested that the three main sources of financing the party are visa racketeering, drug trafficking and contract commissions. The abuse of diplomatic passports, the President?s numerous travels and the VVIP Lounge at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), have also been cited as avenues that have been used to facilitate the trafficking, according to the rumours.

Meanwhile, some observers are of the view that misadventures of the type, recently undertaken by the NPP Member of Parliament have been encouraged by President Kufour?s mantra of corruption and illegal activity indulged in by his party members, as indicated in our last issue, which could be summed up, among others as follows:

I will not publicly rebuke my corrupt party members, for it will undermine my Government

The Office of Accountability exists to advise party members, who are tempted to be corrupt.
