Tourism Minister meets Creative Arts Council

The Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture, Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has met with the leadership of the Creative Arts Council since her assumption of office some months ago.

The meeting was to help change the narrative in the Creative Arts Industry, which is a multi-billion dollar sector with the potential to support President Nana Akufo Addo’s Ghana beyond Aid agenda, for the country’s economic transformation.

It was also to find ways to turn around the fortunes of the Sector for the socio-cultural and economic improvement of the stakeholders in the Industry.

A release issued to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday in Accra said the meeting was also to assure the players and captains in the Industry of the Ministry’s commitment to the overall development and growth of the Creative Arts Industry.

Mrs Oteng-Gyasi said the interaction follows a series of previous stakeholder consultations with the Council and other players in the tourism sector to help make constructive inputs that would lead to the successful passage of the Creative Arts Bill, which is currently before Ghana’s Parliament.

She implored the Council to, as a matter of urgency, put forward meaningful contributions that would help address all the bottlenecks in the proposed Creative Arts Bill before Parliament.

She said the President had a strong commitment to the improvement of Ghana’s tourism sector and invariably the Creative Arts Industry and therefore urged all in the tourism sector to live up to expectation to ensure the socio-economic fortunes of the sector.

The Creative Arts Industry includes cultural sites, visual arts, traditional cultural expressions, performing arts, music, publishing and literary arts, audio visual, new media, design and creative services, research and record keeping.
