Radio Personality and Tourism Ambassador, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey popularly called ‘Abeiku Santana’ is calling for the revamping of the tourism industry in order to reap fully the enormous benefits that the sector offers the country.

Abeiku Santana believes that repositioning of the tourism and hospitality industry through adequate investment and good services could cause the country to earn millions of Ghana cedis just like Dubai are earning from the industry.

All stakeholders, he said should be oriented on best practices which will indeed help make Ghana the preferred tourism destination in Africa.

Speaking to GhOne News’ Central Regional correspondent Kwaku Baah- Acheamfour at the 49th Congregation of the University of Cape Coast which saw him graduating with an Executive Masters in Tourism Management, Abeiku Santana urged his colleagues in the media to help promote tourism development in the country as the sector holds a lot of potentials in boosting the national kitty.

More media platform, he added should be devoted to discussing ways of improving the sector in the country as good branding and promotion could cause the sector to move up from being fourth in terms of sectors that are contributing to the country’s economic sustenance.

Meanwhile, the President of the Association of Tour Operators of Ghana, Madam Nancy Sam who also graduated with an Executive Masters in Tourism also called for the private sector involvement in the running of tourists sites in the country.

The partnership, she explained will cause the sector to get the needed attention and investment it requires saying the private investors will help in injecting the needed capital into the industry leading to improvement at the various tourists sites thereby increasing proceeds from the sector.

She also called for the introduction of insurance cover for all tourists sites to boost tourists confidence especially in the wake of the disaster that struck at the Kintampo Water Falls.

The insurance package, she added will also help assuage pain and cost in case of any eventuality at such tourist sites.
