Trader fined for impersonation and stealing

Accra, April 28, GNA- A trader who feigned to be a policeman and lured a mobile phone dealer to the Police Headquarters in Accra to sell his phones for him was on Wednesday fined two million cedis or two years imprisonment.

Samuel Kwasi Edzidor pleaded guilty to impersonation and stealing two mobile phones valued at 2.6 million cedis before a Circuit Court in Accra.

Police Chief Inspector Rebecca Nugbemado told the court, which was chaired by by Mrs Elizabeth Ankumah that the complainant, Mr Joseph Kangah in April this year gave two mobile phones to a witness in the case to sell at the cost of 2.6 million cedis.

Prosecution said on April 26, this year, at about 0630 hours, Mr Kangah visited the witness at the shoe market, near Novotel Hotel Accra and met Edzidor who introduced himself as a policeman who drives Police Vehicle.

Edzidor expressed interest in buying the mobile phones, which he said, would be supplied to newly recruited policemen to enhance their policing.

Without paying for the phones, Edzidor lured Mr Kangah to the third floor of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Police Service under the pretext of collecting money from prospective buyers.

Edzidor asked Mr Kangah to wait while he collected the money. Soon after Edzidor had left, Mr Kangah became suspicious and decided to follow him but Mr Kangah missed his way.

Mr Kangah peeped through a window on one of the floors and spotted Edzidor hurriedly walking towards the main gate of the Police headquarters.

Mr Kangah chased Edzidor and raised an alarm, which attracted Policemen on duty at the gates and arrested him with the phones. 28 April 04
