Accra, April 20, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday sentenced a 29-year-old trader to three years' imprisonment with hard labour for biting off his colleague's finger during an argument over pawpaw.
Akwasi Sarfo pleaded guilty to causing harm and the court convicted him accordingly.
The facts as presented by Chief Inspector Benedicta Akolgo were that Mr Kwadwo Nyamkye, the complainant and the convict sold their wares at the New Times Corporation Traffic Light in Accra. On April 12, this year, a hawker who sells pawpaw at the same area offered the convict some pawpaw but he rejected it but he went for it later.
When Mr Nyamkye saw that Sarfo had gone for the pawpaw he asked him why he refused to take it earlier. The Prosecution said Sarfo did not take kindly to this and slapped Mr Nyamekye.
A scuffle ensued between them and Sarfo bit off the fourth finger on Nyamekye's right hand. The Prosecutor said some hawkers, who were at the scene, arrested him and handed him over to the Police.
