Cape Coast, Dec. 21, GNA - A circuit court at Cape Coast, on Friday sentenced Ama Suaman, trader, 22, to two years imprisonment with hard labour, for pouring hot water mixed with powdered pepper, on Madam Adowa Akyere also a trader at Amosima near Abura-Dunkwa.
Suaman, who pleaded guilty and was convicted on her plea, is also to compensate Madam Akyere with GH=A2300.00. (=A23million).
Police Superintendent Cyril Ackon told the court presided over Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that both Suaman and Madam Akyere live at Amosima and that on October 12 this year, there was an argument between the families of the two women over the use of a table on which oranges were sold.
He said the argument turned violent and the two women exchanged blows and Suaman rushed to the police station to lodge a complainant and was issued with a medical form to attend hospital.
He said Suaman returned to the police station with the medical form and told the police that she was going to look for a vehicle to go and arrest Madam Akyere. But instead, went to her house, mixed the powdered pepper with hot water and went to Madam Akyere's house.
She found her sitting behind the house with other family members and without any provocation, poured the mixture on her burning her in the face, chest and abdomen.
He said madam Akyere was rushed to the hospital and the matter was reported to the police but Suaman went into hiding and was later arrested.
She told the police that she had rather intended to pour it on Madam Akyere's mother, because she had threatened to deal with her physically or spiritually.
